I just bought the Rock Band 2 bundle for PS3 about 3 weeks ago and I definitely like the guitar more than the Guitar Hero version.

I don't know about the drums. I like Rock Band's drums. They get the job done, and I assume they're of a higher quality as they're the company's second iteration.

I dig the fact that you get 20 additional free downloadable songs with Rock Band 2. Also, you can bum the original Rock Band disc off a friend (or rent it from Blockbuster) and import the songs with a $5 import key. Not so sure you can compare this with Guitar Hero 4.

I can't say from personal experience, but when I asked Ian if he'd be interested in the first Rock Band, he said "definitely not". It seems most of his friends prefer the Guitar Hero games over RB.

I've played the RB1 and 2 on the 360 (primarily drumming) and GH:WT on the PS3. I loved the feel of the GH drums, but liked the look and interface of RB2 so much better.

PS3 is lucky due to them forcing compatibility between the game "controllers".

I have Rock Band 1 and 2 and I absolutely love it. The song selection is very diverse and they release AT LEAST 3 new songs a week and have free downloads occasionally too. I tried out GH and was not very impressed. I always feel like they inject more notes than are actually in the song. I also did not like the new drum set they have. It is kind of awkward. I agree with Alex about the free songs and uploading of Rock Band 1's songs. It is very cool.

You should be good either way as long as you stick with RB2 or GH:WT as the games now work with both sets of hardware. From what I have heard, the drums on GH:WT are better but the guitars on RB2 are better (I believe the RB2 guitars can auto-detect and correct any lag issues).

Here are a couple compatibility charts:

Basically, as long as you stick with GH:WT, RB, or RB2 you should have no problems. If you want to play GH3 or GH2, you will need a GH guitar.
