Your reality is your choice

Team Puzzoni had a lot of fun this weekend. Yesterday, we did a little running around, and ended up at Fun Spot for some roller coaster laps. This morning, we spent a few hours at Magic Kingdom, after almost a month of absence due in part to the insane tourist crowds between the holidays. Once again, it was a fantastic time, and I really don't take for granted that we have access to all of this fun. It's also not an accident.

As I was sitting here in my afterglow, and dozing off for a short nap, for some reason I thought about the comment a friend made to me last year. I forget specifically what he or she said, only that it was kind of a smart-ass remark about how nice it must be to escape reality all of the time. In retrospect, that kind of pisses me off.

The truth is, going to Magic Kingdom whenever we feel like it and enjoying 80-degree weather in January is our reality. We chose to live here for a lot of reasons, and while theme park access and weather were considerations, they're part of a broader set of circumstances we were looking for. You're damn right it's nice... that's why we made the decision! I'm not going to apologize for it.

And let's be real about our reality. The fantastic recreation we enjoy doesn't mean that I don't still have to work hard, or that Simon's challenges are easier, or that we live stress-free, or that it isn't still hard to establish a social circle in a new place, etc. Life isn't all Mickey Mouse and Dolewhip, but don't hate on my reality because I chose to include those things. You're free to make the same choice.
